Ginger pork or buta no shogayaki (豚の生姜焼き) is easy to make and takes less than 20 minutes to prepare. The pork is marinated in a sweet ginger and soy sauce based sauce and fried on the stove. I like to add onions to the ginger pork because they add a sweet flavor after frying them. You can plate the Japanese ginger pork with a side of cabbage and rice to make a complete meal. This Japanese ginger pork recipe will teach you how to make this delicious dish!
Japanese ginger pork is one of the most common pork dishes made in Japanese households. Buta means pork, shoga mean ginger and yaki means to grill or fry in Japanese. Also, ginger can help increase your body temperature, so when you feel exhausted, it can be used as a pick-me-up!
Tips for Making Japanese Ginger Pork
- This Japanese ginger pork recipe is great when you are super hungry, after a long day at work, after a soccer match, after hiking up a mountain, or after not eating all day, and want to feel full!
- I recommend trying the ginger pork with Mayonnaise. It is a delicious combination.
- Garlic can also be added for a slightly different smell and taste. If you make this dish often, sometimes it is fun to try slightly different flavors.
- You can also marinate the ginger pork overnight in a Ziploc bag and prepare it for another time. When you need to cook dinner, just remove the pork and fry it!
- The ginger pork can also be placed on rice to make donburi – a rice bowl dish.
- You can add a small amount of corn starch (or potato starch if available) to the ginger pork after marinating. This thickens the sauce so it sticks better to the pork and can increase the flavor of the ginger pork.
